What to expect at your first speech evaluation

A first evaluation is mostly play. Here is how we structure it, what we are watching for, and how you can help your child feel at ease.

Most families arrive a little nervous. The good news is that for your child, an evaluation looks a lot like playtime. We bring toys, books, and snacks that let us observe speech sounds, language, social interaction, and feeding in a natural way.

Before the visit we will ask about your child's history, your concerns, and what a typical day looks like. During the visit we combine standardized measures with observation, because a test score never tells the whole story.

Afterward you receive a written report and a plan. If therapy is recommended, we talk through goals together and show you one or two things to try at home that same week.
